How to End the Break-Ins in Gimmel
Once again, homes in Ramah Gimmel were burgled this Shabbos. The burglars grabbed a fortune in jewelry and cash from two apartments. For personal prevention, kindly check out our tips on Mehadrinews here.
Now as for a communal response, deterrence, in the form of frequent patrols has proven effective. Until about ten months ago, the break-ins were a veritable plague. There was once a case of seven apartments broken into in a single building!
In response, the residents got together and formed a Shabbos patrol, and the number of reported burglaries occasionally went down to zero.
The chain of cause and effect here is crystal clear. This Rosh Hashanah they patrolled, but on the following Shabbos not; so there were two days of quiet, then, on Shabbos, seven cars were damaged and valuable tools stolen.
Increasing the patrols is both an opportunity and responsibility!
The residents even managed to lower the costs a bit (including car and gas), from 1,500 NIS to 1,250 NIS per day. But there aren't enough signed Horaot Keva (direct debits). One can and should donate to Beit Shemesh's "Hashomer" here. (Recommended by city rabbis.)
