Your Child's First Dental Visit
Dr. Howard Metz:
Your child's first dental visit should be when he or she is one year old. This visit is usually a short visit which gives your child the opportunity to meet the dentist in a friendly environment. Our office is equipped with educational dolls, coloring items and TV screens with age-appropriate shows. The parent may sit with the child in the chair hugging him while the dentist checks his teeth for any signs of decay.
From when they're born, you should be cleaning your child's mouth with a soft, wet cloth. This gets him used to future tooth brushing. When your child's first tooth erupts you should be using a soft toothbrush for cleaning his teeth. Stay away from sugary bottles and never let your child fall asleep with a bottle in his mouth. This can cause Baby Bottle Syndrome and tooth decay.
Please feel free to discuss any issue and ask questions regarding your child's oral health. We are here to provide your child with a positive and friendly experience.
